Boston Terrier
As itīs name suggests the Boston Terrier, was developed in Boston, by the cross breeding of bulldogs and the bull terriers.
Like many of the American bred terrierīs its history is rooted in itīs development as a fighting dog. However the Boston is now much smaller than itīs fore fatherīs and it is a versatile family pet, in the sense that itīs exercise needs are minimal.
The dog like any other, enjoys exercise, but it does not have to be taken for a long hike in the country everyday. They have adapted to life in the city, they do not need a large garden or endless supervision.
They get along well with other pets and are excellent with children, and their comical antics will keep children amused. Best of all they are wonderful personal guard dogs, and they are also easy to house train.
Its coat is short and it has no special grooming needs, a weekly brush will keep this dog,s coat in peak condition. No wonder that this dog breed was the most popular dog in America in the early thirties.
However the terrier is a very gregarious and social dog, it does not like to be left for long periods of time, it does thrive when it has human contact.
This is definitely not a dog that will thrive on being chained up all day, in the yard. They are loyal and wonderful companions, but they do need company.
The boston terrier club of America has a special warning for some inbred health problems suffered by the BostonTerrier they can be prone to eye diseases.
